And party leaders are caught scrambling to try and convince people that they werent covering up for him (when they most definitly were).

Congressman's $121,000 Payoff to Alleged Mistress

Tim Mahoney Elected to Remove 'Ethical Cloud' of His Disgraced Predecessor, Mark Foley

West Palm Beach Congressman Tim Mahoney (D-FL), whose predecessor resigned in the wake of a sex scandal, agreed to a $121,000 payment to a former mistress who worked on his staff and was threatening to sue him, according to current and former members of his staff who have been briefed on the settlement, which involved Mahoney and his campaign committee.

Mahoney, who is married, also promised the woman, Patricia Allen, a $50,000 a year job for two years at the agency that handles his campaign advertising, the staffers said.

A Mahoney spokesperson would not answer questions about the alleged affair or the settlement, but said Allen resigned of her own accord and "has not received any special payment from campaign funds."

Senior Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives, including Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), the chair of the Democratic Caucus, have been working with Mahoney to keep the matter from hurting his re-election campaign, the Mahoney staffers said. A spokesperson for Emanuel denies that account, but said Emanuel did confront Mahoney "upon hearing a rumor" about an affair in 2007 and "told him he was in public life and had a responsibility to act accordingly." The spokesperson added that it was a "private conversation" that had nothing to do with Mahoney's re-election prospects.

Emanuel's spokesperson said Emanual had not had any further contacts with Mahoney on the subject and did not know the woman involved worked on Mahoney's Congressional staff until informed by ABC News.

Mahoney was elected two years ago following the abrupt resignation of his disgraced predecessor, Republican Mark Foley, whose lewd internet messages to teenage boys and Congressional pages created a national outrage.

The affair between Mahoney and Allen began, according to the current and former staffers, in 2006 when Mahoney was campaigning for Congress against Foley, promising "a world that is safer, more moral."

Broken Campaign Promises?

At the time, Mahoney's campaign ads featured a picture of him with his wife, Terry, with the line, "Restoring America's Values Begins at Home."

The staffers say Mahoney first met Allen at a campaign stop and later arranged for her to work as a volunteer on the campaign. Allen also appeared in a Mahoney campaign television commercial, criticizing his opponent.

Following his election in 2006, Allen was hired, at taxpayers expense, to work on Mahoney's Congressional staff in Florida, at a yearly salary of $36,000.

After complaints about the affair circulated in Washington, Allen was moved to the campaign staff, the staffers say.

Friends of Allen told ABC News that Allen sought to break off the affair when she learned Mahoney was allegedly involved in other extra-marital relationships at the same time.

Her friends say she told them Mahoney threatened that ending the relationship could cost her the job.

"You work at my pleasure," Congressman Mahoney told Allen on a January 20, 2008 telephone call that was recorded and played for Mahoney staffers. ABC News was provided a copy. Click here to hear the tape.

"If you do the job that I think you should do, you get to keep your job. Whenever I don't feel like you're doing your job, then you lose your job," Mahoney can be heard telling Allen.

"And guess what? The only person that matters is guess who? Me. You understand that. That is how life really is. That is how it works," Mahoney says on the call.

"You're fired," Mahoney tells her. "Do you hear me? Don't tell me whether it's correct or not."

Allen says, "Tell me why else I'm fired."

"There is no why else," Mahoney responds.

Later, Allen says, "You're firing me for other reasons. You don't, you're not man enough to say it. So why don't you say it."

The portion of the tape provided to ABC News cuts off when the two begin a profanity-laced argument.

The Terms of the Settlement

After Allen was fired, the 50-year old single mother of two hired a lawyer, Gregory Coleman, and threatened to sue the Congressman for more than a million dollars.

Coleman, of the West Palm Beach firm Burman Critton Luttier & Coleman, also served as an attorney for former Congressman Foley. Calls to Coleman, and the lawyer for Mahoney, Gary Issacs, were not returned.

In a February letter to Mahoney, Coleman alleged sexual harassment, intimidation, humiliation and charged that the Congressman's behavior masked a "dark and depraved personality," according to people who have seen the letter.

Following a day-long mediation session in March, Mahoney agreed to a settlement, staffers said.

Mahoney reportedly insisted that Allen destroy all audio and video recordings of a sexual nature, they said.

Allen is also prohibited from working for Mahoney's opponent or any political candidate this election year, according to people familiar with the agreement.

In addition to the $61,000 payment, Mahoney agreed to pay $60,000 in legal fees to Allen's lawyer, they said.

The Former Mistress' Promise of a New Job?

The agreement between the Congressman and Allen, reportedly promises her a job for two years at Fletcher Rowley Chao Riddle or another company, beginning January 2009. Fletcher Rowley, a Nashville-based political consulting firm that offers "crisis management and creative strategy," lists Mahoney's 2006 election victory as one of its "success stories," according to its website.

The firm's CEO, Bill Fletcher, strongly denied any knowledge of the settlement or any promise of employment to Allen. "I know nothing of the like," he told ABC News. "There is no such agreement. There is no arrangement," Fletcher said.

According to Fletcher, all funds paid to his company by the Mahoney for Congress campaign were properly accounted for. "I've made no payments to any third party," he said.

According to people briefed on the settlement Allen was promised at least $50,000 a year or other employment if the Fletcher Rowley job fell through.

Friends of Allen say she was required to sign a back-dated letter of resignation to the campaign chairman, Charles Halloran, describing her departure as "amicable" and "nothing to do with you, the Congressman, the campaign, or any conduct by anyone associated with your congressional office of campaign."

A Mahoney campaign spokesman said, "Patricia Allen resigned of her own accord, in good standing."

The spokesman said there "was no sexual harassment suit filed against Congressman Mahoney."

Allen, reached at her home in Hobe Sound, said she was "unable" to comment publicly.

Her friends say her settlement agreement with Mahoney prohibits her from making "negative comments" about him.

Reporter's Notebook: Seeing How The Other Half Lives

"Obama's campaign schedule is fuller, more hectic and seemingly improvisational. The Obama aides who deal with the national reporters on the campaign plane are often overwhelmed, overworked and un-informed about where, when, why or how the candidate is moving about. Baggage calls are preposterously early with the explanation that it's all for security reasons.

If so, I would love to have someone from Obama's campaign explain why the entire press corps, the Secret Service, and the local police idled for two hours in a Miami hotel parking lot recently because there was nothing to do and nowhere to go. It was not an isolated case.

The national headquarters in Chicago airily dismisses complaints from journalists wondering why a schedule cannot be printed up or at least e-mailed in time to make coverage plans. Nor is there much sympathy for those of us who report for a newscast that airs in the early evening hours. Our shows place a premium on live reporting from the scene of campaign events. But this campaign can often be found in the air and flying around at the time the "CBS Evening News with Katie Couric" is broadcast. I suspect there is a feeling within the Obama campaign that the broadcast networks are less influential in the age of the internet and thus needn't be accomodated as in the days of yore. Even if it's true, they are only hurting themselves by dissing audiences that run in the tens of millions every night.

The McCain folks are more helpful and generally friendly. The schedules are printed on actual books you can hold in your hand, read, and then plan accordingly. The press aides are more knowledgeable and useful to us in the news media. The events are designed with a better eye, and for the simple needs of the press corps. When he is available, John McCain is friendly and loquacious. Obama holds news conferences, but seldom banters with the reporters who've been following him for thousands of miles around the country. Go figure.

The McCain campaign plane is better than Obama's, which is cramped, uncomfortable and smells terrible most of the time. Somehow the McCain folks manage to keep their charter clean, even where the press is seated.

The other day in Albuquerque, N.M., the reporters were given almost no time to file their reports after McCain spoke. It was an important, aggressive speech, lambasting Obama's past associations. When we asked for more time to write up his remarks and prepare our reports, the campaign readily agreed to it. They understood.

Similar requests are often denied or ignored by the Obama campaign aides, apparently terrified that the candidate may have to wait 20 minutes to allow reporters to chronicle what he's just said. It's made all the more maddening when we are rushed to our buses only to sit and wait for 30 minutes or more because nobody seems to know when Obama is actually on the move.

Maybe none of this means much. Maybe a front-running campaign like Obama's that is focused solely on victory doesn't have the time to do the mundane things like print up schedules or attend to the needs of reporters.

But in politics, everything that goes around comes around."

VP DEBATE.

OK!! Here's my take on the VP Debate.

I think I may be in the minority when I say I am less impressed with style than I am with substance.
Biden, who has been in the senate for 200 years, of course is going to have a backlog of names to rattle off at any given moment. That will impress the non thinkers in legion like my leftist friend "countsy" and his nancy "me too" tag along "robo".
But Joe Biden has a looong history of being wrong on so many things, and on the wrong side of so many things that its no surprise that the debate would show some light on a number of either lies or just being so ignorant of reality that its both jaw dropping and scary at the same time.
The remark about obama "two years ago warning about the subprime portgage crisis".

(WHAAAAAAAAAAT?)

OR about hezbolah "being forced out of Lebonon.

(WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?)

These are just two of maybe 9 things that I counted that were either fabrications or just ignorance on ole Joe part.
But he has a style that allows him to cover up his idiocy. By trying to sound like he actually KNOWS a thing or two.
The real sad thing is that it is done knowing that the press won't do their job and will let it slide (as they do the real important work of trying to see if baby Trig is actually Palins Baby....oh brother).

How did I think that she did in the debate? I thought that she did great. Seriously. I think that many were waiting to see her fall flat on her back side. But of course thats not going to happen. The press in their want to controll a story has built her up to be this moron, just as they did with Reagan...and she killed it.
She of course is not a moron. People forget (check that...elitist forget) that she has argued before and debated succesfully and with style and TEETH. She knows what shes doing. And she does it better than Biden.

Now again, the non thinkers (countsy) will point out post debate polls. Well that doesnt ring true to me. From a media so entrenched and invested in obama (again putting out every rumor and tabloid lie about Palin and never touching Obamas Ayers or Rezko connections or even the Edwards affair).
So... I don't pay awhole lot of attention to them.

The Presidency wont be won or lost by the VP debate or choice anyway. (not really).

THE POLLS.
When McCain was UP by 7, A friend wrote me and said "Oh man! Up by SEVEN!" I reminded him that its a close election. And a seven PLUS is meaningless. This could go either way.
I still believe that even with Obama now up by 7.
Now that said...theres still a possibility that it could be blown wide open. And we could see a landslide by one of them.
Again...it could go either way. All it takes is an event (big or small)...and we could have a winner tomorrow!
I personally am still of the mindset that it will go down to the wire. We'll see.
It'll be a looong 29 days though.

In either respect, whether McCain/Palin win or lose, SHE will be back...Because shes a tornado. The way to tell that?

The firestorm that erupted when she was introduced to the world. The hysterics that she generates from the left. And believe me...the left saw that debate and convention speech....They're scared out of their lil sissy panties. (countsy).

She'll be with us for a loooong time. And for that....I'm thrilled.

THE CHARITY GAP: PALIN V BIDEN

I know that I said that I would post my thoughts on Palins debate and of Palin herself. But I just can't get er done tonite. So I'll try for tomorrow nite instead. Till then, heres a fun little fact. Fun yet very telling and very sad.

Yesterday, the Palins released their income tax returns for the last two years, as expected for the general election. While the returns showed the Palins to be squarely in the middle class, with income between $127,000 and $166,000 combined, they also revealed a charity gap between the two VP candidates:

"Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made considerably less money than rival Sen. Joe Biden, but the Palin family gave more to charity in the last two years than Biden has in the last eight combined, according to Palin’s tax records released Friday afternoon. …

In 2006, the Palins paid $11,944 in taxes on $127,869 in income. In 2007, they paid $24,738 on $166,080.

But in 2006, they donated $4,880 to charity, and in 2007, they donated $3,325.

By contrast, Biden (D-Del.), Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s running mate, has donated a total of $3,690 since 1998 despite his higher Senate salary, according to an analysis posted by National Review."

Recall what barack obama said in his appearance at the Saddleback Forum in August:

“Americans’ greatest moral failure in my lifetime,” he said, “has been that we still don’t abide by that basic precept in Matthew that whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me.”

And what Biden claimed as the moral imperative from soaking people with higher taxes:

“Catholic social doctrine as I was taught it is, you take care of people who need the help the most.”

Once again, we see that liberals talk about charity, and conservatives take action. The Palins have been quite generous with their cash, while Biden has given far less on an annual basis with a much larger income stream. Since the two Democrats keep claiming the charitable impulse for spending other people’s money, it’s revealing to once again compare Biden’s own personal giving to his political rhetoric, and to his opponent in November.

Facts and truth....two things alien to democrats.

There is one thing that I like to say repeatedly. Don't trust democrats with anything.
Our schools are run and governed by democrats/leftists...and they are in shambles. A laughing stock to the world. So hellbent on teaching al gores ridiculous movie and less on the Fundamentals of learning.
Then try to cover it up by saying "we cant flunk anyone due to doing damage to their self esteem."

Fighting terrorism: The democrats solution is to bury their heads in the sand, raise their fat hineys in the air and quietly murmer through the sands :"be gentle.."

And this banking/financial mess :
Of which was foreseen by the republicans in 2003, 2005, only to be ignored by the democrats, who wanted to give loans to people that can't AFFORD those loans. All while calling the republicans "mean spirited" for even bringing it up.

How much more 'mean spirited' is it that now those same people that were given the loans (out of good intention),,are now LOSING their homes....losing everything.
Not to mention that other citizens who had nothing to do with any of that...are being hit HARD with loses to their stock portfolios. Older folks losing just about everything.

Democrat policies.

Now there is a 50/50 chance that obiden will win this election. The people will have to live with their choice.

The housing/banking mess are "loans by affirmative action". And look how thats turned out.
If the presidential race is also built on affirmative action mentality....people are going to hurt. And they will have to lay in the beds that they have made.

(for at least four years anyway..hopefully there wont be too much irreversible damage.)

Pretty clear choice. If your not a lazy thinker.

The selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate has so thrown him off stride, as it has most other Democrats, that all the momentum he had has vanished. He’s getting panicky advice from everywhere. He intends to launch more and sharper attacks, abandoning any pretense of a new and different, more civil campaign.

Democrats know something, and desperation is setting in. They have a novice campaigner who wanders off message. With every advantage in the primaries, Obama couldn’t win the big states — New York, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania — against Hillary Clinton, even when he got to define the rules for running against him. She could never risk alienating the base she’ll need in 2012; John McCain and Sarah Palin have no such constraints — hence the panic.

For a “change” candidate, Obama appears to be a man locked in time, unable to move past criticism, unable to move from the grip of the Democratic left, unable to adapt to the changed reality that the campaign is not the referendum on the war in Iraq or on the administration of George W. Bush that he’d envisioned.

He’s begun to sound dated. Last week, for example, he devoted valuable campaign days — less than two months remain — into explaining a silly “lipstick on a pig” line. The McCain campaign had reacted, accusing him of making the reference to Palin. “I don’t care what they say about me,” Obama responded. “But I love this country too much to let them take over another election with lies and phony outrage and ‘Swiftboat politics.’ Enough is enough,” he said. (The Swiftboat reference is from the 2004 campaign of John Kerry).

The Democratic left is still seething from the Kerry campaign’s loss and is determined to see Bush expelled from the White House in disgrace — the reason it is locked in to making this a referendum on the administration now ending.

It barely worked when the maverick McCain, no darling of the Bushites, got the nomination. With Palin, the Washington outsider, the “third term” argument is plainly absurd. But Obama can’t let go, just as the lefties can’t let go of the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth defeat of Kerry. He can’t move on.

Obama has the habit, too, of reminding voters of their doubts about him, as he did in reminding a Detroit audience that he’s been accused of being less interested in protecting you from terrorists than reading them their rights. And, when he professes love of country as his basis for refusing to allow the McCain campaign to attack his words, he raises questions about why he finds the affirmation of love necessary.

Obama will lose because with less than two months remaining voters won’t be able to get comfortable with him. He can’t stay on message and he can’t avoid sending signals that interfere with the message when he does.

McCain, on the other hand, has been superb going back at least to Obama’s European tour. Mainstream America is comfortable with him and, with Palin’s selection, conservatives who had their doubts are onboard. The GOP is energized and suddenly an unwinnable election is reversed.

Obama got this far by winning small states and Southern states he has no chance of carrying in November. In Georgia, for example, the latest Insider Advantage poll has McCain pulling 56 percent of the vote to 38 percent for Obama, numbers that are not likely to change more than 4 percentage points in November. The undecideds and those who intend to vote for third-party campaigns are at 6 percent.

In this election, voters will decide early. Obama’s been in a yearlong campaign; McCain’s familiar. The two are sufficiently exposed and known for voters to make a decision now.

It’s not over. But it’s getting there — and Obama knows it.""

Biden gave average of $369 to charity a year

WASHINGTON — Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden and his wife gave an average of $369 a year to charity during the past decade, his tax records show.

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's campaign today released 10 years' worth of tax returns for Biden, a senator from Delaware, and his wife Jill, a community college instructor. The Bidens reported earning $319,853 last year, including $71,000 in royalties for his memoir, Promises to Keep: On Life and Politics.
The Bidens reported giving $995 in charitable donations last year — about 0.3% of their income and the highest amount in the past decade. The low was $120 in 1999, about 0.1% of yearly income.

Over the decade, the Bidens reported a total of $3,690 in charitable donations, or 0.2% of their income.

Biden spokesman David Wade said in an e-mail that the Bidens "also contribute to their favorite causes with their time as well as their checkbooks." Wade said Jill Biden has volunteered to help military families and the family "pitched in driving supplies to the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina."

Nationally, more than two-thirds of U.S. households reported giving to charity in 2004, with average contributions of $2,047 that year, according to a study released in January by the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. Those households who gave to charity averaged donations of about 3% of their income, says Patrick Rooney, the center's interim executive director.

Another study of wealthy households in 2005 found average yearly donations of $40,746 from people with incomes from $200,000 per year to $500,000 per year, Rooney says. But like most statistics on giving, those numbers are skewed upwards by a small number of people who give large amounts to charity, says Rooney, formerly the center's research director.

Other vice presidents have been criticized over their charitable contributions.

Then-Vice President Al Gore came under fire when his 1997 tax return showed only $353 in donations to charity; he and his wife, Tipper, gave $15,000 to charity, or nearly 7% of their income, in each of the following two years.

""Michelle Walsh wanted to teach her 2nd-grade Girl Scout troop about the presidential election.

What the Naperville mother got was a lesson about the rough-and-tumble world of political finances.

Walsh said she called both campaigns and asked for free trinkets she could give the 7-year-olds to help them learn. If they did well, she explained, each Scout would earn her "Ms. President" patch. The tchotchkes would provide added incentive.

A representative for John McCain responded immediately, sending Walsh a box filled with stickers and signs.
The Barack Obama camp wasn't quite so generous, Walsh said.

The troop leader said she called Obama's Chicago campaign headquarters and explained why she needed the curios. Walsh said she was directed to Obama's Web site—where she could buy all the buttons and posters she wanted.

On the Web, a packet of 50 stickers that say "Obama '08" goes for $5; a yard sign is $8. "Got Hope?" bumper stickers are $3 each, or two for $5.

Walsh found the prices a bit exorbitant her small group.

She said she asked Obama's campaign worker again if she could get a few items for free. She pointed out that McCain's camp had agreed to send a box and, well, her 12-member Scout troop runs on a very small budget.

Walsh said the woman at Obama's headquarters put her on hold. After a few minutes, she returned with the same answer. The woman told her that she sympathized, but the Obama campaign needs every penny it can get, Walsh said.
"She said, 'We're up against the machine and we just can't hand anything out for free,' " Walsh said. "She was very nice . . . but I wasn't getting anything."

The woman then directed Walsh to another spot on Obama's Web site where she could print out pages for the girls to color on, she said.

Instead, Walsh e-mailed What's Your Problem?

"I was very surprised," Walsh said. "I thought this was a no-brainer. Especially since McCain's camp responded without a thought."

How, Walsh wondered, could a campaign that has raised roughly $400 million be so stingy?

Walsh said she was determined to remain impartial. "My whole point was I did get something from McCain. I can't even hand out the McCain items without something from the Obama side as well," she said...""

How Obama lost the election

DENVER - Senator Barack Obama's acceptance speech last week seemed vastly different from the stands of this city's Invesco Stadium than it did to the 40 million who saw it on television. Melancholy hung like thick smog over the reserved seats where I sat with Democratic Party staffers. The crowd, of course, cheered mechanically at the tag lines, flourished placards, and even rose for the obligatory wave around the stadium. But its mood was sour. The air carried the acrid smell of defeat, and the crowd took shallow breaths. Even the appearance of R&B great Stevie Wonder failed to get the blood pumping.

The speech itself dragged on for three-quarters of an hour. As David S Broder wrote in the Washington Post: "[Obama's] recital of a long list of domestic promises could have been delivered by

any Democratic nominee from Walter Mondale to John Kerry. There was no theme music to the speech and really no phrase or sentence that is likely to linger in the memory of any listener. The thing I never expected did in fact occur: Al Gore, the famously wooden former vice president, gave a more lively and convincing speech than Obama did."

On television, Obama's spectacle might have looked like The Ten Commandments, but inside the stadium it felt like Night of the Living Dead. The longer the candidate spoke, and the more money he promised to spend on alternative energy, preschool education, universal health care, and other components of the Democratic pinata, the lower the party professionals slouched into their seats. The professionals I sat with were Hillary Clinton people, to be sure, and had reason to sulk, for an Obama victory might do them little good in any event.

The Democrats were watching the brightest and most articulate presidential candidate they have fielded since John F Kennedy snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. And this was before John McCain, in a maneuver worthy of Admiral Chester Nimitz at the Battle of Midway, turned tables on the Democrats' strategy with the choice of Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate.

Speaking to Obama supporters on the periphery of the big event, I was startled by the rapturous devotion elicited by the junior senator from Illinois. He is no symbol for identity politics, no sacrifice on the altar of white guilt, but the most gifted persuader of individuals that I have encountered in any country's politics, as well as a powerful orator on the grand stage. This is not a crowd phenomenon nor a fad, but the response of hundreds of people to an individual.

Gandalf's warnings about the irresistible voice of the wizard Saruman in J R R Tolkien's Lord of the Rings come to mind. If these battle-hardened veterans of America's wars fell so easily under the spell of Obama's voice, who can withstand it? Obama's persuasive powers, though, are strongest when channeled through the empathy of his interlocutor. Everyone believes that Obama feels his pain, shares his dream, and will fight his fight and heal his ills. But that is everyone as an individual. Add all the individuals up into a campaign platform, and it turns into three-quarters of an hour worth of promises that echo all the ghosts of conventions past.

Obama will spend the rest of his life wondering why he rejected the obvious road to victory, that is, choosing Hillary Clinton as his vice presidential nominee. However reluctantly, Clinton would have had to accept. McCain's choice of vice presidential candidate made obvious after the fact what the party professionals felt in their fingertips at the stadium extravaganza yesterday: rejecting Clinton in favor of the colorless, unpopular, tangle-tongued Washington perennial Joe Biden was a statement of weakness. McCain's selection was a statement of strength. America's voters will forgive many things in a politician, including sexual misconduct, but they will not forgive weakness.

That is why McCain will win in November, and by a landslide, barring some unforeseen event. Obama is the most talented and persuasive politician of his generation, the intellectual superior of all his competitors, but a fatally insecure personality. American voters are not intellectual, but they are shrewd, like animals. They can smell insecurity, and the convention stank of it. Obama's prospective defeat is entirely of its own making. No one is more surprised than Republican strategists, who were convinced just weeks ago that a weakening economy ensured a Democratic victory.

Biden, who won 3% of the popular vote in the Democratic presidential primary in his home state of Delaware, and 1% or less in every other contest he entered, is ballot-box poison. Obama evidently chose him to assuage critics who point to his lack of foreign policy credentials. That was a deadly error, for by appearing to concede the critics' claim that he knows little about foreign policy, Obama raised questions about whether he is qualified to be president in the first place. He had a winning alternative, which was to pick Clinton. That would have sent a double message: first, that Obama is tough enough to make the slippery Clintons into his subordinates, and second, that he is generous enough to extend a hand to his toughest adversary in the cause of unity.

Why didn't Obama choose Hillary? The most credible explanation came from veteran columnist Robert Novak May 10, who reports that Michelle Obama vetoed Hillary's candidacy. "The Democratic front-runner's wife did not comment on other rival candidates for the party's nomination, but she has been sniping at Clinton since last summer. According to Obama sources, those public utterances do not reveal the extent of her hostility," Novak wrote. If that is true, then Obama succumbed to the character weakness I described in a February 26 profile of (Obama's women reveal his secret). His peculiar dependency on an assertive and often rancorous spouse, I argued, made him vulnerable, and predicted that Obama "will destroy himself before he destroys the country".

Alternately, Obama might have chosen a rising Democratic star like Virginia's 50-year-old governor Tim Kaine. A weaker choice than Hillary, Kaine (or someone like him) would have made a bold statement of self-confidence. Obama could have said with credibility that he would bring to Washington a new generation of outsiders who would change the old system. Instead, Obama saddled an old and unpopular Washington warhorse.

Curiously, Obama ignored the rising stars of his own party, offering the prime time speaking slots to familiar faces, including Senator Edward Kennedy and Bill and Hillary Clinton, as well as his own wife, the first prospective First Lady to take the keynote spot in the history of American party conventions.

McCain doesn't have a tenth of Obama's synaptic fire-power, but he is a nasty old sailor who knows when to come about for a broadside. Given Obama's defensive, even wimpy selection of a running-mate, McCain's choice was obvious. He picked the available candidate most like himself: a maverick with impeccable reform credentials, a risk-seeking commercial fisherwoman and huntress married to a marathon snowmobile racer who carries a steelworkers union card. The Democratic order of battle was to tie McCain to the Bush administration and attack McCain by attacking Bush. With Palin on the ticket, McCain has re-emerged as the maverick he really is.

The young Alaskan governor, to be sure, hasn't any business running for vice president of the United States with her thin resume. McCain and his people know this perfectly well, and that is precisely why they put her on the ticket. If Palin is unqualified to be vice president, all the less so is Obama qualified to be president.

McCain has certified his authenticity for the voters. He's now the outsider, the reformer, the maverick, the war hero running next to the Alaskan amazon with a union steelworker spouse. Obama, who styled himself an agent of change, took his image for granted, and attempted to ensure himself victory by doing the cautious thing. He is trapped in a losing position, and there is nothing he can do to get out of it.

Obama, in short, is long on brains and short on guts. A Shibboleth of American politics holds that different tactics are required to win the party primaries as opposed to the general election, that is, by pandering to fringe groups with disproportionate influence in the primaries. But Obama did not compromise himself with extreme positions. He did not have to, for younger voters who greeted him with near-religious fervor did not require that he take any position other than his promise to change everything. Obama could have allied with the old guard, through an Obama-Clinton ticket, or he could have rejected the old guard by choosing the closest thing the Democrats had to a Sarah Palin. But fear paralyzed him, and he did neither.

In my February 26 profile, I called Obama "the political equivalent of a sociopath", without any derogatory intent. A sociopath seeks the empathy of all around him while empathizing with no one. Obama has an almost magical ability to gain the confidence of those around him. Perhaps it was the adaptation of a bright and sensitive young boy who was abandoned by three parents - his Kenyan father Barack Obama Sr, who left his pregnant young bride; his Indonesian stepfather Lolo Soetero; and by his mother, Ann Dunham, who sent 10-year-old Obama to live with her parents while she pursued her career as an anthropologist.

Combine a child's response to serial abandonment with the perspective of an outsider, and Obama became an alien species against which American politics had no natural defenses. He is a Third World anthropologist profiling Americans, in but not of the American system. No country's politics depends more openly on friendships than America's, yet Obama has not a single real friend, for he rose so fast that all his acquaintances become rungs on the ladder of his ascent. One human relationship crowds the others out of his life, his marriage to Michelle, a strong, assertive and very angry woman.

If Novak's report is accurate, then Michelle's anger will have lost the election for Obama, as Achilles' anger nearly killed the Greek cause in the Trojan War. But the responsibility rests not with Michelle, but with Obama. Obama's failure of nerve at the cusp of his success is consistent with my profile of the candidate, in which I predicted that he would self-destruct. It's happening faster than I expected. As I wrote last February:

It is conceivable that Barack Obama, if elected, will destroy himself before he destroys the country. Hatred is a toxic diet even for someone with as strong a stomach as Obama ... Both Obama and the American public should be very careful of what they wish for. As the horrible example of Obama's father shows, there is nothing worse for an embittered outsider manipulating the system from within than to achieve his goals.

By all rights, the Democrats should win this election. They will lose, I predict, because of the flawed character of their candidate.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Coalition troops on Monday formally handed over security control of Iraq's Anbar province -- once the hub of the country's Sunni insurgency, to Iraqis on Monday.
President George W. Bush described the transfer as a major victory against al-Qaeda extremists who once held sway in the area.

"Today, Anbar is no longer lost to al Qaeda -- it is al Qaeda that lost Anbar," he said in a statement.

Once dominated by Sunni insurgents, Anbar has been the scene of many attacks on U.S.-led troops in Iraq.

Now a bastion of tribal opposition, it is also the scene of an internal Sunni political struggle between the Iraqi Islamic Party, one of Iraq's main Sunni parties, and the Awakening movement, the first anti-al Qaeda in Iraq movement established in the country.

More than 25,000 U.S. troops serve in the sprawling Anbar province west of Baghdad; most of them Marines. They will remain for the time being but will shift their mission to supporting Iraqi forces, when needed

The transfer is a "major progress" for all of Iraq, said Brigadier Gen. David Perkins, the spokesman for the Multi-National Force in Iraq.

The transfer ceremony took place in Ramadi, the capital of the western province, and was attended by Iraqi officials and U.S. military brass.
"We are all well aware of what the security situation was in Anbar even a year ago," Perkins said. "And the fact that that has been able to be turned around, that the Iraqi citizens that live there want to stand up on their own, [that] they want to take control of the province on their own ... it's a major progress not only for Anbar, but for all of Iraq."

Anbar is the 11th of Iraq's 18 provinces to revert to local security control, but is the first Sunni-dominated one.

The other provinces that have transitioned to Iraqi security control are Duhuk, Irbil and Sulaimaniya in the Kurdish region, and Karbala, Najaf, Qadisiya, Muthanna, Thiqar, Basra, and Maysan in the Shiite south.

HYPERAGGRESSIVE Sen. Chuck Schumer really outdid himself last week at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, lying to Gov. Paterson about an embarrassing incident and horrifying several associates with his antics, party insiders say.

Schumer lied to Paterson about the circumstances under which he upstaged the governor by denying him his agreed-on role of introducing Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, a senior Democrat told The Post.

"Chuck had agreed to turn the microphone over to Paterson when Hillary showed up at the New York delegation breakfast, but then he hogged it for himself and later told the governor that [Assembly Speaker] Shelly Silver knew this was the plan all along," the prominent Democrat said.

"But that wasn't the plan all along. The plan, and Chuck knew it, was for the governor to introduce Hillary.

"Chuck lied about what happened, and the governor knows he lied."

Added another prominent delegate, "Chuck was out of control.

"He was elbowing people on the floor of the convention, pushing his face into the picture whenever he could, and upstaging the governor at the delegation breakfast."

Schumer's failure to turn the gathering over to Paterson led to a second embarrassment for the governor.

So much time passed by the time Clinton was done speaking that Paterson was forced to put off for two days his opening address to the New York delegation.

An obama lookalike at the dem convention. Now this is nothing new really. there are always the lookalikes around these things. But in this case, this is one of the times when the lookalike has just as much experience as the candidate himself.

Maybe obama should have nominated the lookalike to be a vp. Then he could spoon with him (due to his infatuation with himself).

A palie of mine sent me an email talking about the poll today from zogby showing mccain up by five (which is about a 12 point swing). Now that doesn't mean a whole lot to me. I know that this thing is close, and it could break either way. Bigtime.
The only thing that is interesting and of some importance to me is the 'trend'.

But I'm not cocky bout this. McCain could be up by 20 and I wouldn't be cocky about it. This is going to be one of those years, where even history is against the conservatives.

That being the case.....ask any leftist about why the polls are so close and you'll get a puzzled looky.

But the reason is...that people just aren't sure they want to hand the country over to a man cub with very little experience (if any at all) who has very extreme views. And the Saddleback forum did nothing but fuel these doubts.
Just so the public can feel good about themselves.

THE LEFTS 'MESSIAH' GETS HIS HINEY HANDED TO HIM.

On Saturday, paster Rick Warren from Saddleback Church held a forum with the two candidates.
John McCain and obambi.

Some very interesting things happened.

1) Due to a coin toss, obama didn't have the media pulling for him, and therefore they didn't choose for him to go second. (a much more valued position to be in. Remember Hilary whining about always having to go first? While obama went second.)

2) Obama was not on his most valued piece of equipment. The teleprompter. And when that happens, The eloquent "one" isn't...well...very eloquent.

The thing about obama is that everything that he says doesn't really mean anything. Its just high rhetoric. Platitudes.......all empty.

It was a trainwreck.

McCain by contrast was energetic. Tough. Direct. And CLEAR.
Obama was anything but. In some areas...downright lying .

The left blogs are whining and crying saying it "just wasn't fair". Another sign that obama wiped out.

McCain has a record. He has a history. Obama, again in contrast is trying to as always, have it ALL ways. To be all things to all people. And that usually leads to a massive fall down.
Saturday was one of those massive fall downs.

Waaaaay back when, obama boasted of "debates, anytime and anywhere!"
Since then he has avoided them at all costs. McCain said "how bout 10 town hall debates".

And what you heard from the obama camp was excuses and crickets....
Now, we know why.
Obama off teleprompter, is obama without brains.


....and lil tyke obama knows it.

""Poo and pee dominated a public hearing Monday on a new law that prohibits people from carrying certain items if they intend to use them for nefarious purposes.

The law, crafted in advance of the Democratic National Convention, was adopted unanimously by the City Council.

But not before a hearing laced with comedy and profanity.

Representatives from some of the groups planning large-scale protests during the DNC this month said the ordinance was unnecessary and accused city officials of fear mongering.

"The intent of this ordinance is to try to smear protesters and make them look as if they are somehow criminal or somehow going to engage in some kind of gross conduct," said Glenn Spagnuolo, an organizer with the Re- create 68 Alliance.

The ordinance makes it illegal to carry certain items, such as chains, padlocks, carabiners and other locking devices. It also prohibits the possession of noxious substances. Two of the most frequently used examples of a noxious substance are a bucket of urine and a "feces bomb."

Police have to prove that people carrying such items intend to use them to block public access or emergency equipment or to thwart crowd control measures.""

Well...I guess this is what passes as deep thought from "progressives" (so-called).

A whole lot of pee and poo. And as with most liberals...more than a smattering of B.O. to go with their BS.

SENATE CANDIDATE AL FRANKEN HOLDS TOWN HALL , ONE PERSON SHOWS

"Al Franken is trying to turn his former fame as a comedian into the gain of one U.S. Senate seat for Democrats by upsetting incumbent Republican Sen. Norm Coleman in Minnesota.

But he probably didn't intend his town hall meeting on veterans issues yesterday to turn into the joke.

Only one person attended.

For the record, The 'ouch' at the end was actually in the article. It was not added on by myself.
I would not have added that.
For myself, I don't know how I would sum up 'laughing so hard that I pee'd myself' in one snappy word.

So I guess the TIMES 'ouch' line will have to suffice.

You know...way back when..when all the rumors came out on this. I wrestled with the question of whether or not I should post anything on this.. I opted not to.
For a few reasons.
I just hoped that it wasn't true. Because if it were, it would just be devastating for the family.
And I just take no joy in that.

So, I let it be.

Now that its out, let me say dis' bout dat'.
I cant stand john edwards. I have always thought he was an awful, AWFUL person, who as a trial lawyer, has hurt many many people and made things harder for people by bringing silly lawsuits against doctors and in total..hurting good people, both in the medical profession and ordinary joes by helping to raise costs for them.

He's a bad person.

But this is something different. I don't have any joy in things like this. (Republicans OR democrats).

With all that said (above), My personal feelings about him and his world views aside...I have no doubt that he loves his kids. I have no doubt that he loves his wife. I have no doubt about the regret that he feels at this time.

I feel for his family. I feel for his wife who is and has already gone through so much. I feel INCREDIBLY bad for his children.

...and I hope and pray for healing for them.

....at least do it right....It's "You Can't make This SHIT Up."

Thats a post from my very good and more than a little retarded friend 'countsy' on his very little bloggy.
He was a little bothered by the fact that I was quoting him when answering his post (july 25).
For my LAST post (August 2. below).

And IN quoting his post I altered his title to read :

"...you cant make this 'STUFF' up."

Countsy...two things:

1) I was mocking you. Making fun of you. And when I was in the process of doing so, I thought, "well....theres no need to use the expletive. There just isn't a reason to.

THEN I thought, hmm, this is a good (not great) showing of the differences between us. You (countsy) feel the need to lower yourself in doing so. I don't know..maybe you think it adds 'heft' to your thought (or lack of 'thought').
While I on the other hand, try not to use those words. Not that I'm not guilty of doing so. But just in that I think I've used em' too much in the past and I'm trying to ween myself off of doing it (to the best of my abilities).

I just think that if I don't try my best to..the next thing you know, I'm adding the "f" word in EVERY bit of work that I put out. And thats rather cheap, and doesn't add much to the work or more importantly... myself .

Now I know that THATS alot to digest there, countsy. So let me break it down for you. Quite simply :

1) Its a bad habit

2) I'm smarter and more disciplined than you. And yeah..dare I say, maybe even more 'bootyliscious'
